The 2022 Annual UCB Business Meeting took place on Saturday, September 17, at the Utah Division for the Blind and Visually-Impaired. About 40 people, including those present at the Center and those attending via Zoom, attended the meeting.
President Anna Jeffery presided over the meeting. Participants giving reports included Sandy Ruconich, Executive Director, and Vicki Flake, UCB Treasurer, both of whom, along with Anna, reported on happenings of the UCB during the past years, and the Treasurer’s Report.
Some old and new members were elected to the Officers and Board of Directors. Anna Jeffery, president, Jeana Nielsen, secretary, Sandy Ruconich, managing director, and Sandy England were re-elected to new two-year terms in their respective offices, and three new members were added to the Board: Dennie Clark, Mindi Larson, and Cindi Vega.
Several bylaw changes were voted on at the meeting, many of which were simply of a housekeeping nature.
After the voting, a cold lunch was served and the meeting adjourned.
New terms for the Officers and Directors will begin January 1, 2023.

This year at the Golden Anniversary celebration in December, we will be giving awards out to those people who have served the blind.
We give 4 awards:
Linda Kay Braithwaite Award – For volunteer service to the blind community. We typically look for 10 years or more.
Albert M Talmage – For volunteer service to the blind community. This is always given to a blind individual. We typically look for 20 years or more.
Sarah Talmage – For volunteer service to the blind community. This is always given to a sighted individual. We typically look for 20 years or more.
Leslie H Gertsch – For lifetime leadership and volunteer service to the blind. This may be given to a blind or sighted individual who has basically spent the bulk of their adult life not only volunteering, but also providing leadership, within the blind community.
We want to acknowledge those who have served, or are serving, the blind in some capacity with an award that comes from an outstanding blind organization. It is OK if they are serving the general population as well, but their award needs to be for their service that they have done for the blind.
Please send in your nominations to me by November 1 at syeangel@comcast.net
Thank you,
Sandy England

Are you tired of water or soups boiling over on your stove or in your microwave. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond, and they showed me this item called a “Pot Minder”, and it works great! Amazon has one for about $10.99; it might be called something different. You can use the pot minder over and over again.
Second hint: This is a great time to buy fresh vegetables and fruits. I got some fresh green beans from the Farmers Market. I found a very quick way to preserve them.
1. Wash them.
2. Cut the ends off, then you can either leave them like that or cut them in half or however you want.
3. Get a pot of water and let it come to hard boil with the lid on, then when it comes to a boil put the cut-up beans in pot and start your timer of 3 minutes with the lid on. Drain.
4. After 3 minutes put the green beans in very cold water (put ice in water to make it cold) and keep it there for 3 minutes. Drain the beans and dry them the best you can and put in freezer bags and freeze. Then, when you take them out to eat, you will cook them first. Wonderful taste, and you can add whatever you want in them.
